Maiden’s Journey:
A Menarche Offering for Daughters & Mothers
A sacred gathering to honour the threshold of the first bleed
Mothers, step into this tender rite of passage alongside your daughter, as we mark the beginning of her cyclical years with reverence, joy, and connection. Through stories, physiologic and nature-based wisdom, creation, and shared rituals, we celebrate this powerful transition into maidenhood.
Designed for girls aged 8–13 and their mothers (or mother-figures), this four-part in-person series weaves education with creativity, play, and sacred space. Together, we remember the wisdom of the female body and honour the rhythms that guide us.
Many mothers did not receive the education, reverence, and support we needed at our own menarche. This offering is a chance to reclaim that lost wisdom — to learn alongside our daughters, to tend to our own inner maiden, and to model what it looks like to approach the menstrual years with care, curiosity, and confidence. Sharing this rite of passage together can deepen connection and open lifelong conversations about womanhood, body literacy, and belonging.
In this series, we’ll explore the menstrual cycle as more than just a physical process — as a source of deep wisdom and vitality. We’ll learn about the body’s physiology: the hormones, the inner workings of the cycle, and how each phase supports our overall health and wellbeing. We’ll also reflect on the emotional and spiritual aspects of menstruation, and how honoring this rhythm can deepen self-trust and body literacy. Rooted in both science and ancestral traditions, this journey offers a blend of education, ritual, and relational connection — helping girls (and their mothers) step into this threshold with knowledge, reverence, and confidence.
The Gatherings
Gathering one: Spring; rebirth, renewal, building, planning
Gathering two: Summer; expression, beauty - ovulation
Gathering three: Fall; preparation, descent
Gathering four: Winter; rest, shedding and receiving - our bleed time
What to Expect
Each gathering will begin with the creation of a seasonal altar, setting the tone for our time together. We’ll explore the female body through physiology, nature-based wisdom, and seasonal myths that speak to the journey of becoming.
Each session includes a hands-on craft to build a personalized Moontime Initiation Kit. A recommended shopping list will be provided to help complete the kit at home.
Mothers, you’re invited to learn and craft alongside your daughter(s) and treat your next first bleed after completion of this series as the Menarche you never had (or the next New Moon if you are not cyclical).
There will be plenty of space to share stories, ask questions, and connect in community.

About me (Rosie)
I had my Menarche at age 12, while I was away from home at summer camp. I was completely surprised and too shy to ask for support from the camp leaders. For decades I didn’t think about how this first impression could perhaps have impacted me, or that this was an important Rite of Passage in my life.
Then in my 40s, while certifying for INNATE Traditions Postpartum Care Practitioner, I learnt a lot about women’s physiology and health, and the impact of each of the Rite of Passages we go through as women, including menarche. This course really is an intitiation into womanhood.
I’ve since also taken courses with Womben Wellness (and been part of their memberships for a period of time) and Blissful Womb Care to deepen this cycle knowledge.
I’ve also done my own deep dive, as I tend to do. Important books to me on this topic are ‘7 Times a Woman’ by Lia Andrews, ‘Wild Power’ by Sjanie Hugo Wurlitzer and Alexandra Pope, ‘Her Blood is Gold’ by Lara Owen, and ‘Rtu Vidya’ by Sinu Joseph.
I’ve been tracking my cycle for the last few years in the ‘Cycles Journal’.
My cycle to me is now sacred. The menstrual phase something I look forward to, as I now have such easy access to wisdom as a result of honouring all of my cycle. I wish every woman to feel the same, and I am passionate about making sure girls start this journey off right.
